When Mark Gottfried took the job as Head Men's Basketball Coach at his Alma Mater, he probably expected that his job would be tough. Little did he know what was in store for his team, however. In his first year, Gottfried took the Tide men to the NIT post-season tournament. In his second year, the Alabama men were plagued by injuries, including a season-ending injury to Jeremy Hays early in the 1999-2000 season. That team ended with a 13-16 record. The 2000-01 season promised a higher Tide, with a lot of young talent returning, and the team produced, advancing to Bama's first ever NIT Championship Game, but falling to Tulsa in that game. The 2001-02 Tide rebounded to sweep the SEC Eastern Division, and finally figured out how to win on the road. |
