Hugh's Take on the Game Alabama has a five game winning streak, stretching over two seasons - something the Tide hasn't had in ten years, when Bama opened the 1993 season with 5 straight wins on the field - all of which were later taken away by the NCAA - before the 28 game winning streak was snapped with a on the Third Saturday in October, as Alabama and Tennessee played to a 17-17 tie. In four years at Alabama, former head coach Mike DuBose led the Tide to five consecutive wins once, in 1999, before Bama lost to Michigan in the 2000 Orange Bowl. We know how the rest of 2000 went for Bama. Middle Tennessee didn't roll over and die for the Tide. Many "experts" picked them to upset Bama, and apparently they listened to those predictions. Alabama got up big early, 22-0 in the first quarter, and hung on to win 39-34 thanks in large part to a clutch interception returned for a touchdown. Oklahoma's season opener at Tulsa was similarly a tale of two games. OU was up only 3-0 at the half, and playing like they were looking ahead to Bama. In the second half, Tulsa collapsed, and the Sooners ended up winning handily and maintained the shutout. Which teams will show up next Saturday? Who knows... Hugh's Call: Alabama 35, Oklahoma 32 |
